It’s a new month and you’ve Filled your Envelopes again. But last month you had overspent in a few Envelopes and spent less than you budgeted in others, and now those deficits and surpluses have been carried forward into the new month. However, you want last month’s spending to only affect last month — how can you have your Envelopes reset automatically to their budgeted amounts at the beginning of each month so that they only show your current month’s spending?
You can do this by creating a scheduled Envelope Fill that Sets your Envelopes to their budgeted amounts. See below for instructions on doing that on the Web, iPhone, and Android.
Web
- Start a new Envelope Fill by clicking on “Fill Envelopes” in the upper-left of the screen.
- In Section 1. Fill from, choose “Available”.
- Change the Date to the 1st of the month, then check the box that says “Schedule this…” and choose “Every month”.
- In Section 2. Fill your envelopes, locate the dropdown menu that says “Choose a Quick Fill” and select “Set all”.
- Save the Envelope Fill.
You should find that your Envelopes now only show your spending for the current month. Furthermore, this Envelope Fill should post again on the first of every month, allowing you to have a clean start each month with your budgeting.
iPhone
- Start a new Envelope Fill by tapping the Add Transaction button and choosing the “Fill from Available” transaction type.
- Tap the Date field and set the date to the 1st of the month.
- Tap the Schedule field and choose “Every Month”.
- Tap the “Choose a Quick Fill” line and choose “Set All Monthly to Budgeted Amount”.
- If you have any non-Primary Envelopes that you’d like to reset, scroll down in your Envelope’s list and tap on each Envelope individually to select the reset option.
- Save the Envelope Fill.
You should find that your Envelopes now only show your spending for the current month. Furthermore, this Envelope Fill should post again on the first of every month, allowing you to have a clean start each month with your budgeting.
Android
- Start a new Envelope Fill by tapping the Envelope icon in the upper-right of the screen.
- Tap the “From Unallocated” button. Note: Unallocated on Android works similarly to Available on iPhone and Web.
- Tap the Date field and set the date to the 1st of the month.
- Check the “Schedule this…” box and choose “Every Month”.
- Tap each of your Envelopes that you want to reset and choose the “Set to Budget Amt” option.
- Save the Envelope Fill.
You should find that your Envelopes now only show your spending for the current month. Furthermore, this Envelope Fill should post again on the first of every month, allowing you to have a clean start each month with your budgeting.
